First – a MONEY saving tip…

Should your doctor prescribe Meclizine, you can get this over the counter very cheap rather than pay for a prescription. I was prescribed Meclizine. It was late at night and we were sent to the 24 hour Walgreens to get this prescription. They gave me 30 pills for $20.00. A week later I was out of pills. I went to Wal-Mart to see if they had anything that would help. The pharmacist suggested that Meclizine was the best thing for Vertigo. She said it was “over the counter” then handed me a 100 pill bottle and charged me $5.50 for it. Long story short – Shame on Walgreens, Kudos to Wal-Mart!

On October 24th, I developed Vertigo while on a backpacking trip with my scout troop. Every time I sat up or lay down, my head (room) would spin wildly (wildly is a huge understatement) for about 5 minutes. – Worse than anything I had ever experienced before.

At first I thought it may be dehydration. I drank a lot of water that night and was no better by the next morning. I managed to hike back to our vehicle with our troop the next day (about a 4 mile hike with a fully loaded backpack minus most of my water weight).

Once home, I had my husband look up the symptoms on the net to see what it could be. He found that low iron could be the culprit. I do suffer from low iron at times, as noted when I attempt to donate blood every 2nd month. I do take iron pills to bring up my iron to be able to donate blood. He gave me an iron pill and two B-12 pills which I also seem to need when attempting to raise my iron level. Several hours later there was no progress in the way I felt so my husband dragged me off to the Texas Med Clinic. I really did not want to go, but he is bigger than me – ha ha.

The doctor assessed me and told me that it was Vertigo. He gave me a prescription for Meclizine and sent me on my way. Some people who get Vertigo have it for only a few days. Others have it for years. I would say I am about 80% better, but I still feel dizzy at times and I still don’t feel the way I used to. I hope that I get back to normal soon.

I hope you never get Vertigo, but if you should, remember that Meclizine is over the counter. Don’t get caught paying for prescription prices!

Best wishes to all
